How this page stays accurate
Two kinds of information live on baig.social, handled two different ways:
Recurring patterns — IceForum Duluth's and Center Ice Arena's published weekly session templates, and Caffeine and Octane's "first Sunday of the month" rule — are computed live, right in your browser, from the current date and time in Atlanta. That's a small piece of JavaScript doing arithmetic on a known, published rule; there's no server involved for those, and no way for that piece to silently go stale, though the underlying rule itself can still change without notice (school holidays, event bookings), which is why each of those cards still links to the venue's own page to confirm. IceForum's template comes from their own posted flyer; Center Ice Arena's regular schedule was confirmed directly.
Scraped hours — for venues without a simple public rule, a script fetches that venue's own schedule page (or, for Atlanta Ice House, its two public Google Calendars directly as structured calendar data, which is more reliable than reading a page) and tries to pull out today's hours or this week's events. This runs automatically every day. It's a genuine best-effort attempt at a moving target: venue websites change their layout without notice, some render their calendars in JavaScript a simple fetch can't see, some sit behind bot protection that blocks the request outright, and a scrape can occasionally come back wrong or empty. When that happens, the card is marked with how stale that data is and the venue's own link is always right there to double-check. One venue's live booking calendar (The Ice's Finnly Connect widget) explicitly blocks automated access in its own robots.txt, so it's deliberately not scraped — that venue's stable weekly pattern is scraped from their own hours page instead, which does allow it.
Hand-verified facts — specific one-off event dates (like Petit Le Mans) are checked by a person, not a feed, so they're only as current as our last check.
The "Today & this weekend" box on the homepage pulls from these same three sources automatically, matching each rule, scrape, or fact against today's date and the upcoming Saturday/Sunday. It doesn't cover every venue — several only publish hours in a way nothing can safely auto-read yet — so an empty-looking day there means "check the card," not "nothing's open."
What you can always trust: names, addresses, phone numbers, and which category a venue falls into. What you should always verify on the linked site before heading out: today's specific hours, ticket prices, and whether a session or race has been cancelled.
A small automated job runs every day: it confirms every link on the homepage still resolves, refreshes whatever scraped hours it can, and moves the "last verified" date at the top of the homepage forward when the link check and data validation both pass. If a link breaks, that date stays put and we get flagged to go fix it — so an unmoved date is itself a signal something needs a look.
